Antonio Florencio, a 40-year resident of Rocinha, expressed his dissatisfaction with incomplete infrastructure upgrades that fail to meet community needs. At the Rio Museum of Modern Art, he feels that the agenda of the G20 summit is disconnected from their reality, even if they are barely 12 miles away. “The G20 will discuss a plan that should benefit the entire country and the world, to be honest. But will this community change in any way as a result? The Associated Press quoted him as saying, “I don’t think so.”
Cultural Events to Encourage Discussions
In addition to the social G20 conference, the Brazilian government has organized a free music festival in the port area of Rio de Janeiro from Thursday to Saturday. Among the famous performers are Zeca Pagodinho, Daniela Mercury, and Seu Jorge. This cultural endeavor aims to engage both locals and visitors to improve the summit talks. Brazil wants to create a more inclusive environment by combining cultural events with political debate.
